TALE OF THE RAMAYANA (Wayang Kulit)

Duration: 30 minutes.

Suitability: Anyone above age 4. However the accompanying traditional music may be too loud for some. Due to size constraint, the theatre does not cater for wheelchair access.

Background: Wayang Kulit is a traditional shadow puppet show originating in the Malay Archipelago during the pre-colonial period in Malaysian and Indonesian histories. Today, this artform has practically vanished due to modernisation. Wayang Kulit is based on the epic tale of the Ramayana from India, performed with shadow puppets by a puppeteer behind a white screen to the accompaniment of the sound of traditional musical instruments.

PUNCH AND JUDY  (Glove Puppets)

Duration: 45 minutes.

Suitability: Anyone above age 4. Due to size constraint, the theatre does not cater for wheelchair access.

Background: Punch and Judy is a traditional puppet show featuring Mr. Punch and his wife Judy. The performance is a sequence of short comedic scenes, depicting an interaction of Mr. Punch and another character who usually falls victim to Mr Punch’s humour. The show originated in sixteenth century Italy and the British version first appeared in 1662. The Razko version also includes depictions of Malaysian culture.

OLIVER TWIST  (Animated Illustration)

Duration: 1 hour.

Background: Oliver Twist is the all-time classic work of Charles Dickens, widely regarded as the foremost English-language author of all time. The story follows the adventure of young Oliver in nineteenth century England. Here, the story is narrated through digitised original illustrations as closely based on the classic literature as possible. It is especially suitable for early learners of English and anyone who is a fan or student of Charles Dickens’ works.
